Celebrating 45 years of care

20th April 2021
Monday 12th April 2021 marked 45 years since the first patient admission to Sobell House.

Lots has changed since 1976, so we thought we’d take a whistle-stop tour through just some of the milestones we’ve covered in that time:

  • The hospice building has been extended twice. We dug into the archives and found this BBC coverage of our planned extension from January 2016. The extension was completed in September 2019 and now houses inpatient beds, a specialist lympohedema service, and the charity office.
  • Our support service offerings for our patients and their loved ones have been expanded over the years, and now include creative therapies, bereavement support, a transport service, and a catering team.
  • During the Covid-19 pandemic we’ve adapted our working practices and continued to provide support to our community.

But one thing will always remain the same: providing compassionate care and support to the people of Oxfordshire.

We want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you, because we couldn’t do it without the unwavering support and kindness of our community. Thank you, and here’s to many more years of care to come!
