Trusts and Foundations
Trusts and Foundations play a vital role in helping Sobell House provide compassionate care when it is needed most.
As demand for our services continues to grow and costs continue to rise, this support has never been more important. Every grant and donation helps us be there for people facing life-limiting illness and their families.
By investing in Sobell House, you could help to sustain many of our essential services, or make important, innovative improvements to patient care.
How your funding helps
Elevating care
Your funding could enable us to buy the specialist equipment that elevates a person’s care, providing them with more independence and comfort.
Supporting families
We also use funding on important services such as our bereavement and transport services, and for building updates, such as our recently refurbished Family Room.
Innovative services
Researching and implementing pioneering advancements in palliative care and hospice services is at the heart of what we do. Your funding could be a part of this.
Hear from the team
Case study: Making memories as a family
“A patient was admitted to the hospice for end-of-life care. She experienced significant pain in her stomach and so had difficulty sitting upright or lying flat in bed. She had a young son and at home they enjoyed playing board games together as a family. It was important to the patient that she had some ‘normal’ time with her son whilst she was here. We were able to transfer her into the tilt in space wheelchair; using the functions to find a comfortable position. This meant that they were able to go to the lounge to play board games in area which wasn’t so clinical and go to Costa for a coffee. This was important to her, to create memories.”

Case study: Providing a home-from-home
The Family Room was completely refurbished in 2025, and now provides a relaxing space for families and patients to enjoy together. They can watch films, play games, complete a jigsaw, and most importantly have somewhere to take a break and have a meal or a cup of tea. The Family Room backs onto one of our beautiful gardens.
“The Family Room is a fresh, calm and contemporary environment for our patients and loved ones to enjoy whilst dealing with a difficult time in their lives. The facilities provide them with a sense of empowerment and independence, which can be difficult to achieve whilst away from home.”

Case study: Innovative treatment and intervention
OxMINT (Oxford Metastatic Intervention Service) is the first UK clinical forum of its kind, and only one of three globally, which has been designed to transform how people living with secondary bone cancer are assessed and treated.
A referrer from Clinical Oncology comments, “Excellent service, easy to refer by email, really sensible discussions with [different specialties] – streamlines care for the patient, otherwise it would take so much longer to decide on treatment.”
A nurse from the hospital palliative care team commented, “Thank goodness for OxMINT, what did we do before?”
Patients have commented that they feel reassured that despite their terminal illness they are not “forgotten and abandoned” but still supported, cared for, and offered intervention where appropriate.
