Become a shop volunteer

Our shops are a critical source of income for us, and we’re really grateful for our lovely volunteers who help us to keep them running. Carry on reading to find out more about what’s involved in becoming a Sobell House shop volunteer, and what you can get from volunteering.

No experience needed!
There are plenty of opportunities to help out with different tasks in our shops, so there’s something for everyone. Our friendly shop staff are on hand to offer any training you need, so even if you’ve never worked in a shop please don’t let that put you off!

How you could help in the shop

  • Accepting and sorting out donations.
  • Greeting customers and offering to assist them.
  • Keeping the shelves and racks full.
  • Spreading the word about the work that Sobell House does.

Why volunteer?
There are lots of reasons to volunteer in one of our shops, but here are just a few of the benefits that you could get from volunteering:

  • Gain experience of working in retail.
  • Learn transferable skills such as customer service, administration and teamwork.
  • Meet new people, and make new friends!
  • Flexible hours. Whether you just have a few hours a week to give, or maybe more, it makes a big difference to us.
  • Improve your wellbeing. Did you know that volunteering can actually reduce stress? It can also give you a greater sense of purpose, and helps to improve your self-confidence.

Urgent appeal
All of our shops need volunteers, however the shops in urgent need right now are Carterton, Bicester, Marston, or Wantage. Please let us know if you can help in any of those locations!
