An opportunity to share your skills and help plan activities for patients with life-limiting conditions whilst learning more from our inspiring cohort of patients and experienced palliative care staff.

Living Well offers a welcoming space for patients with life-limiting conditions to meet in a supportive environment and to access support from our team of experienced palliative care clinicians.

During the day, people attending can also choose to take part in activities. Our patients describe it as the “Place to Be…sociable, creative, listened to, relaxed, safe, understood and inspired.”

We are looking for volunteers who have a creative skill they would like to share with others – this might be gardening, a language, art, print-making, woodworking, sewing, cookery, creative writing…we are open to ideas!

 

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Enthusiasm and a skill you would like to share with others
  • Ability to empathise with others
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate individuals or a small group to take part in an activity
  • Ability to differentiate to make activities accessible for all
  • High level of organisational skills, problem solving and attention to detail
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations should they arise
  • Able to use own initiative
  • Ability to liaise between staff and patients
  • Reliable
  • Can work effectively as part of a team
  • A good understanding of confidentiality and boundaries

Role responsibilities

  • Attend handover meetings with staff.
  • Attend a planning meeting with staff before your first activity session
  • Prepare your session(s) including planning resources required
  • Facilitate your session(s) to a small group with varying needs
  • Listen, chat and enjoy being with people in the room
  • Recognise the service users various needs and differentiate activities accordingly.
  • Assist with the general organisation of resources, including set-up and clean-up of materials
  • To adhere to health & safety procedures, Sobell House policies and risk assessments

Training

  • Online training (approximately 7 hours)
  • Living Well induction
  • Informal training in how to safely and inclusively deliver your session

Shifts available

Tuesday and/or Wednesday (flexible per agreement).

09:30am -12:30pm  / 10:45am to 12:15pm
