Arts and Crafts Volunteer

Mon-Thurs, 10am-1pm

We’re recruiting an Arts and Crafts Volunteer to facilitate arts and crafts for patients with life-limiting conditions. The Volunteer will be required to differentiate tasks so that they are accessible to all.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

  • Good knowledge and a keen interest in arts and crafts
  • High level of organisational skills, problem solving and attention to detail
  • Ability to differentiate to make activities accessible for all
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations should they arise
  • Able to use own initiative
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to liaise between staff and patients
  • Reliable
  • Empathetic
  • Can work effectively as part of a team
  • A good understanding of confidentiality and boundaries

Role responsibilities

  • Attend handover meetings with staff
  • Prepare art and crafts sessions, for service users
  • Facilitate arts and crafts sessions to a small group with varying needs
  • Recognise the service users various needs and differentiate activities accordingly
  • Inspire and motivate service users to develop their arts and crafts skills, assisting them in the creation of their projects, supporting them to brainstorm and use their own initiative
  • Assist with the general organisation of resources, including set-up and clean-up of materials
  • Notify the supervisor when materials need replacement
  • To adhere to health & safety procedures, Sobell House policies and risk assessments


  • Fire safety – On induction and annually thereafter
  • Safeguarding adults – On induction and 3 yearly thereafter
  • Online training (approximately 7 hours)

Other specific training may be offered for specific roles where appropriate.
