Play the Lottery

Sign up for the chance to win £2,000 every week!

Sobell House partners with the Local Hospice Lottery, which is a weekly lottery set up to provide financial support to adult and children’s hospices across the country.

You can sign up to play the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Sobell House, which not only means you’ll be in with a great chance of winning £2,000 every week, but you’ll also be providing us with much needed funds for our work.

The Local Hospice Lottery contributes around £200,000 a year towards Sobell House’s work, which makes a big difference to our ability to provide care to our patients and their loved ones. We’re very grateful to all our players and hope you choose to join them!

It costs just £5 a month to play and not only do you have a great chance of winning, but you’re making a big difference too.

How your support makes a difference

Every year, the lottery raises enough money to fund over 6,000 hours of creative therapies, such as music and art therapy.

Creative therapies provide our patients with a safe space to talk about their thoughts and feelings at an overwhelming time, and can even be used to provide special keepsakes for loved ones. Some of our patients have used their time to create albums, Desert Island Discs, and paintings.

Mark worked alongside Tom, our music therapist, to create storybooks for his two-year-old son, and kindly shared his experience in this video.

Hear from a winner

In August 2020, Terry from Oxford was the lucky winner of £16,000, as a result of playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Sobell House. He talked to us about his win:

I first started supporting Sobell House by donating items to your shops. I was impressed, as you managed to raise a lot of money from the sales of the things I’d donated. Then I decided to start playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Sobell House.

Before I retired I worked at the Churchill as a Phlebotomist, and would visit Sobell House to take blood from patients. I was so impressed by the place, everyone was so kind and helpful.

A few friends have since been cared for by Sobell House, and you hear such good things about the care. They were very well looked after and made to feel comfortable, so it’s really nice to be able to support the work by playing the lottery.

When I got the call to say that I’d won, I was just amazed! To think that I of all people should win. We haven’t decided how to spend the winnings yet, but are planning on buying a new sofa and it’s a great help to know it’s there if I need it. I would definitely recommend playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Sobell House to others.

How much of my entry fee helps Sobell House?

Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Sobell House to Sobell House. This is expected to be at least £850,000 over five years from April 2020. For each £1 entry in the weekly draw Local Hospice Lottery gives an average of 60p to hospice care. As a comparison, the National Lottery gives 28% of proceeds to good causes and the Health Lottery gives just over 20%.

Sobell House is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain who are supported by Local Hospice Lottery and all profits are donated to hospice care. By sharing management costs and overheads, Local Hospice Lottery is able to offer both a larger prize fund to players and provide more money for hospice care.
