Social care services

The Social Work and Benefits Team at Sobell House includes two full time Social Workers and a part time Benefits Advisor, as well as part-time Administrative Support.

The team addresses the needs of patients, families and staff at the hospice in different ways. For example:

  • Patients and families can use our team to discuss and resolve psychological, social and financial concerns which can be expected during an admission to the ward. We can also advise to the Day Centre, Hospital and Community Teams.
  • If discharge from the ward is appropriate, the Social Workers can assist with arranging funding and care providers at home or in nursing homes to make this happen.
  • The Benefits Advisor can address the needs of patients and families in the community with a home visiting programme.
  • Staff both within and beyond Sobell House can expect assistance from the teaching programme which our team offers to continue improving skills in palliative care.
