Placements and visitors

We host a Specialty Registrar training post and a General Practice training post for the Thames Valley Local Education and Training Board.

Funding available to support training

For Oxfordshire health and social care staff providing end of life care:

Oxfordshire CCG supports education to improve end of life care through an End of Life Care Education Fund.

Placement opportunities

We offer a variety of placement opportunities for health and social care staff and students, enabling you to observe and work alongside the staff at Sobell House and gain experience in palliative care. Placements can range from a taster day to a supervised, four week clinical placement and are open to UK and overseas applicants. We cannot help with any financial support. Travel and accommodation arrangements must be made by individual visitors themselves. However, if you are working in a developing country you may be able to obtain funding from Hospice UK.

We would expect you to identify clear objectives for your visit and to demonstrate its benefits to your professional practice and your organisation, where applicable.

If you would like to enquire about a placement please email us at [email protected] and we will forward the relevant application form to you. We do need at least four months notice to arrange a placement, as most involve clearance for a temporary contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Overseas arrangements will take longer.

Visits

We can arrange tailor-made visits for individuals or groups. We expect you to have clear objectives for your visit and to demonstrate that it will bring benefits to your professional practice and your organisation. Please note that we are unable to provide interpreters. Please send your application to us at least three months in advance. The cost is as follows:

  • Half day (3 hrs) £30 per person including lunch, up to a maximum of £250
  • Full day (6 hrs) £60 per person including lunch, up to maximum of £500
